What are Plasmonic Fluorophores™?

Invented by Nanopartz™, Plasmonic Fluorophores™ are a novel product family that combines both gold nanoparticles and fluorophores into one construct. The constructs exhibits the dual properties of both components: very high absorptions and scattering from the central gold nanoparticle combined with high fluorescence from the attached fluorophores. Nanopartz™ has developed chemistries that make this constuct exhibit the following benefits:

1. Increased fluorescence. Not only are there many more than one fluorophore per nanoparticle but if chosen correctly, plasmonic nanoparticles such as rods, can enhance this signal by another factor of upwards of 10-20 times. The overall result is a single nanorod can be as bright as 50,000 fluorophores!

2. With the plasmon coupling between gold nanoparticle and fluorophore, fluorescence quenching is essentially eliminated.

3. Enables the potential for both absorption, scattering, and fluorescence detection.
